October 20-23, 2002 - Carlsbad, NM

On October 20 we drove 259 miles to Seven Rivers Cove RV Park, north of Carlsbad, NM getting a discount through Passport America.  We stayed four nights and found out it was converting to a KOA in January and would not be in Passport America anymore.  It was a nice place with huge sites and enough off the highway to not hear the highway.  We wish we couldn't smell the oil in the air, there were diesel and jet fuel plants close by and you could smell them some of the time.

Our main reason for being here was to see Carlsbad Caverns, so on the 21st we drove down to the National Park.  There were lots of informational signs about plant life and the history of the area before you entered the caverns.  Here is what we saw before we entered the cavern: Outside Carlsbad Caverns.

We took the Natural Entrance down and the elevator back.  Here is our trip down the Natural Entrance.

Here are lots of pictures from the Caverns.

After we came back out we took the scenic drive back and only encountered two other vehicles.  Here is the Scenic Drive.
