October 19, 2003 - Mount Vernon

We drove down the Potomac River and saw the damage from Hurricane Isabel and then we arrived at Mount Vernon, George Washington's house:

Here is what it looked like:

The insides were interesting, especially George Washington's garish color choices.

The house has a very scenic setting:

Everything was labeled and looked like it was still being used:

Here and there were people in costume to help you understand the times:

George Washington was a control freak, he kept track of every detail and understood how everything was done at his farm and house.  He was a fascinating man.  Touring Mount Vernon and taking in some of the talks and tours offered is well worth your time.
