Ormond Beach Dec 5-11, 2005

We drove the 90 miles from Hanna Park to Ormond Beach, which is just north of Daytona Beach, FL.  Here is our campsite:

The next day we headed up the coast highway, A1A, to St. Augustine, which we visited in November 2003.  Here is a picture of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument area, which we visited in November 2003.

We didn't do much in St. Augustine, it was a bit cool and windy.  We ate at the Acapulco Restaurant and it was good, but not as good as two years earlier.  We went to a bead shop since Diane was looking for some particular beads for a plastic canvas project.  They didn't have the right beads, but recommended going to Imagine That! in Ormond Beach, so we went there on the way back.  Diane found something that would work at Imagine That! and told me it must be a chain since she knew the name and logo from somewhere else.  I went and investigated and found their website, http://www.imaginebeads.com/ , and found out why Diane was familiar with the store, there were two stores and the other was in Poulsbo, WA.  Imagine That!

The next day we took A1A south to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and toured around.  Here is a turtle and alligator close to the visitors center:

A really nice yellow flower:

And then the birds.  We saw many black vultures, but I don't think you need to see those pictures.  Here is a Little Blue Heron and some Glossy Ibis:

Here is a Great Egret:

Here are some Roseate Spoonbills and Wood Storks:

Some closer look at Roseate Spoonbills, which are really lovely:

On another day we did some local touring, here is the beach at Daytona Beach:

Lots of construction and repair going on, but this scene struck us as funny:

"Having an Affair..?? Do it Here...".  How nice, a romantic encounter in the shade of a back hoe.

At the campground we saw this motorhome come in and realized again that everyone has different taste:

It is not our taste.

We did find one nice place to eat on a day trip to Mount Dora, which is north of Orlando, it was an Italian place called Cafe Attuare.
