June 7, 2006 - Dawson Creek, BC Sights

Dawson Creek, BC is where the Alaska Highway starts.  The highway was built during WWII to supply Alaska and was completed in 8 months.  Now it is a major supply and tourist route.  Here are the RVs parked at the Visitors Center:

We had time so we drove north of Dawson Creek about 20 miles and took the old Alaska Highway route to the Kiskitinaw Bridge over the Kiskitinaw River.  It is the only original bridge left on the highway since it was bypassed by a new highway and bridge and thus preserved.  Notice it is made of wood and curved:
