May 29, 2007 - Mount Baker Highway

May 29th we decided to take the Mount Baker Highway.  Here are some views along the way:

The snow is getting deeper:

The end of the road for now.  The summer visitors center is not yet open since this is the road to it:

It was a really pretty drive to the top.  We were surprised when the cell phone rang while we were at the top, we had excellent service.  It was Dick asking about dinner so we made plans.  Not far below the top of the highway we had no cell phone service again.

We drove the rough dirt road to Nooksack Falls on the way back.  Here is the river just above the falls:

Looking at the top of the falls:

The falls themselves:

The lower falls is also fed by this stream:

Lots of huge rhododendrons blooming on the road, but hard to get a photo.  Here are some photos as we came into Sedro Woolley and back to the campground:

We were glad we took the time to make the drive.
