July 13 to 22, 2008 - Coeur d'Alene, ID to Birch Bay, WA

We headed out of Hungry Horse on July 13th and traveled west.  We stopped for lunch at this viewpoint looking down at Flathead Lake and Elmo, Montana:

After 236 miles we stopped at the Coeur d'Alene, ID Elks lodge for two nights.  They added 10 more RV sites since we last stopped in September 2006 and we were in one of the new sites.

One day we took the scenic route around Coeur d'Alene Lake:

Two ospreys fighting:

We ate one meal out in Coeur d'Alene, a nice pub meal at Moon Time.

July 15th we drove 246 miles to Lake Easton Resort in Easton, WA.  We had last stayed here in June 2004.

July 16th we crossed Snoqualmie Pass back into Western Washington State and headed north to NACO Birch Bay where we stopped for a week after a drive of 174 miles.  We last stopped here in August 2006 just after our Alaska trip.

Being only 5 miles from the Canadian border, the Verizon aircard service was uneven so we put up our satellite dish:

July 17th we took a day trip into British Columbia.  We had lunch at White Spot, always good, and picked up a few grocery items we can only find in Canada.

On the way back into the U.S. at the Abbotsford/Sumas crossing we could see the cars heading north into Canada and spied a VW Beetle decorated like friend Susan's (see the red arrow in the photo).  Yup, it was Susan who said in email she had popped across the border to get some salad dressing she could only buy in the U.S.  Small world.

July 21st we drove down to Mount Vernon visit with Dick and Pat and got this nice photo of Mount Baker.

July 22nd we visited the city of Lynden for the first time instead of just skirting around the edges.

Looks like The Loft Restaurant was using a bit more heat than they needed:

Lynden had very nice flower baskets:

For the first time we saw a Newmar AllStar in a campground here at NACO Birch Bay.  Mostly these sell to people who do not seem to use campgrounds, so it was nice to actually see someone have one in a campground.

We were unable to match up with Floyd and Patty since Floyd was out of town on business most of our stay.  Next time.

During our stay we ate at Bob's Burgers and Brew twice, at Lorenzo's in Mount Vernon with Dick and Pat, and the Sidewalk Cafe in Lynden.
