February 16 to March 1, 2009 - Jamul (San Diego), CA

We left Winterhaven on February 16th in cloudy skies and the weather stayed fine for most of the trip west, then it got rainy.  We turned south at El Cajon and after 165 miles we were parked on the north side of TT Pio Pico, where there were only water and electric sites.  We had no cell phone service so even with it raining Bill set up the satellite dish.  Our last stay here was in December 2008.

Our friend's John and Cathy were already in Pio Pico so we got together multiple times during our stay.  We had last seen them in Quartzsite.

After two days of Bill being by the ranger station at 9AM we got a site on the south side and moved.  We had both cell phone service and satellite service here.

We did have to take the long way to the campsite because this route was not recommended for longer RVs:

But we also could set up the bird feeder:

And Evita enjoyed watching the birds eat:

Our water pump was having issues and John offered to help install a new one so off we went to Camping World in San Marcos since they had it on sale.  By the time we were done with Camping World and the Fry's Electronics across the street the highway was in gridlock with traffic so we took a leisurely drive down the coast watching the sunset.  We ended up at Chevy's in San Diego for dinner since it was too late to go home and cook something.

John ended up doing about all the work putting the water pump back in but said he enjoys doing this kind of work.

We did help them buy a new small notebook computer, an Asus Eee PC netbook, to take on a cruise.  They installed a bunch of software and the computer became unstable.  We think we found the problem software and uninstalled it the night before they left for the cruise.  We will know after they get back from the cruise.

John and Cathy headed out for a 15 day cruise to Hawaii with more Boomer friends.  We forgot to take their photo but we will be seeing them again after the cruise.  We ate at Greek Town Buffet Restaurant in El Cajon, Fred's Mexican Cafe in Old Town San Diego and Romano's Macaroni Grill in Chula Vista with John and Cathy.

We headed over to Carlsbad, CA for a day with Ken and Sue where we were joined by Ken's Mom and another Boomer couple.  We had last seen Ken and Sue at the Gypsy Journal Rally.

On our last morning there was an emergency just across from us:

On our own we ate at Greek Town Buffet Restaurant once more before leaving the area.  We also ate at Islands twice during our stay.

Now we are moving about 50 miles north.
