July 28, 2009 - North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt NP and Painted Canyon, Part 2

More views:

We turned around and headed back, it is 14 miles one way.

A lone bison we saw on the way back:

Interesting formations:

The bison were still close to the road where we saw them earlier.

On the road (through a dirty windshield):

In the distance:

A view of the construction zone while we waited.

We were glad we visited the north unit.  It was worth the trip.

We headed back south.  This time we stopped at the Painted Canyon Visitors Center, about six miles east of Medora.  From the visitors center you have a panoramic view of the south unit:

Impressive.
