January 16 to 22, 2010 - Fort Myers Beach, FL

We were glad the weather was warm again.  Now we could get out and see some of the wildlife.  Of course we don't have to go far.  Here are a great egret and a great blue heron visible from our motorhome.

A white ibis in the campground.

Another nice hibiscus flower in our campsite:

On January 20th we took a day trip to Sanibel and Captiva islands.  We started by driving all the way to the end of Captiva and then came back into Sanibel where we toured the Bailey Tract before lunch.  Our last trip to Sanibel was in February 2008.

Then we had lunch at Greenhouse Grill, quite good.  We thought of driving back to Captiva and eating at the Green Flash again, but decided it was too far. The Greenhouse Grill was a fine choice.

After lunch we went to the main visitors center of J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge and then took the wildlife drive.

After the wildlife refuge we went and visited Jim and Sue at their site on Sanibel Island.  We had last met up in the UP of Michigan in September.

We had a great visit.  We had meant to get a photo or two of their campsite but messed up.

We did get a photo of their cat, Sadie, who is 19 years old and doesn't look or act her age

Some wood stork photos from our campsite.

A snowy egret on the lake.

Two glossy ibis on the lake.  We see more white ibis than glossy here, but we do see them both together sometimes.

We also had meals at Bahama Breeze, Steak n' Shake, and Sunflower Cafe during this week.

Only a bit over one week left here in Fort Myers Beach since the campground is booked solid for February.  We will miss it but adventure awaits.
