October 5 to 9, 2004 - Carson City and Ely, NV

October 5th we drove 194 miles via I-80 and US50 to Comstock Country RV Park in Carson City, NV.  Here is our campsite:

We picked this campground because it was right next to Costco and we could drop the car off to get the tires rotated and walk home.  Otherwise we thought it a bit expensive for what we got.

Once we got the car back we drove out and toured.  The VW spider in Moundhouse doesn't look as good as it did in February 2002.

The views on the Virginia City tour were still good, there was no snow like in February 2002.

Reno in the distance:

October 7th we drove the "Loneliest Road", US50 from Carson City to Ely, NV.  It was lonely and there were many mountain passes on the route.  We ended up at Valley View RV Park after 324 miles.  Here is our campsite:

Great Basin National Park, October 8, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

We learned we could have stayed closer to Great Basin National Park than Ely.  Next time we will do so since there wasn't much reason to hang around Ely.
