April 12 to 13, 2010 - Blanding, Utah and Needles District

We left Farmington, NM on April 12th and headed west into Arizona and then north on US191 to Blue Mountain RV Park in Blanding, Utah.  The wind was getting stronger and the dust blowing harder as we drove so we were glad to stop.

Here is our campsite in the wind.

There are mountains to the north.

The wind really got strong through the late afternoon and evening.  It calmed down a lot in the middle of the night.

The next day we headed to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park.  On the way we had some snow come down but the forecast was for a nice afternoon.

First stop was the Newspaper Rock National Historic Site outside the national park.

These next two photos are with the contrast turned up to make the petroglyphs stand out.

A more realistic view.

Definitely a worthwhile stop.

The view across the road.

Then we moved on to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park, a first time visit for us.

On the way back it was clear and nice.

The view of the mountains from the campground is much better now that the dust storm is gone.

Now we are off to Moab.
