January 26, 2012 - Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Part 1

We drove up I-95 from Port St. Lucie to Titusville and stopped for lunch at a place we had heard of many times, Dixie Crossroads.  Those fritters come with your meal, they were good.  So was the rest of the food so agree that Dixie Crossroads is worth a stop.

Next we headed down the road to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.  We last visited in March 2008.

The color in the clouds is either dust or ash. Turns out there were fires to the west and it was ash.

An alligator first thing on wildlife drive.

Another alligator.

A great egret:

Roseate Spoonbills in the distance.

A tri-colored heron in the distance.

Lots of coots and ducks.
