January 26, 2012 - Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Part 3

We did catch a photo of an American Bittern:

Another tri-colored heron:

A long telephoto with lots of birds including great egrets, snowy egrets and tri-colored herons:

This great blue heron was posing for a few of us and barely moved.

We did see anhinga and a bald eagle but did not get good photos.  We did not see any little blue herons, which is interesting.

After the wildlife drive we went to the visitors center.

This butterfly would not stop moving so this is the best photo.

This butterfly did sit still.

An osprey over the pond.

Painted buntings that were quite shy so we had to shoot the photos from a distance.

We left the wildlife refuge and headed to Coco Beach to look at beach shops.  Then after the long drive back we stopped at Steak-n-Shake for a light dinner.  It was a good day trip and we were happy to have made it.
